Record Breaking Cherished Number PlatesThe DVLA’s 100 th Cherished Number Plate Auction has broken the record for the most expensive UK number plate sold. The plate 51 NGH that looks similar to “Singh” sold for £254,000 beating the previous record of £231,000 paid for the cherished number plate K1 NGS (sold to the Sultan of Brunei) set in 1991. Other notable plates at the number plate auction were 1 OO reaching £197,000 and MR51 NGH (Mr Singh) selling for £101,000.
The auction was also notable for the youngest ever winner, six month old Devon Lalani. Devon’s parents paid £10,000 for the cherished number plate D3 VON, which they plan to give him as a birthday present when he is older.
Some other great cherished number plates at the auction included RU55 ELL (Russell), which sold for £78,500, and F4 CUP (FA Cup) at £11,200. In total the auction raised £6,500,000 beating the previous record of £5,400,000. Personalised Number Plate News: 09-05-2006 |
