Number Plate Sells For £7 Million
 The super rich in the United Arab Emirates are bidding massive sums of money for out-of-the-ordinary car licence plates as the Gulf state basks in an oil-driven economic boom.
One particularly wealthy businessman on Saturday forked out a record (US) 14 million dollars (£7 Million) for a licence plate at a charity auction in the UAE capital of Abu Dhabi.
"It is not huge compared to my family's fortune," Saeed Abdel Ghaffar Khouri told AFP after he bid 52.2 million dirhams ($A15.67 million) for an Abu Dhabi licence plate bearing the single number "1".
"The price is fair. After all, who among us does not want to be number one?" asked Khouri, whose fortune was made in real estate and stocks.
Asked what he planned to do with the licence plate, the twenty-something said he would frame it and mount it on a wall rather than attach it to a car. Read More.

6 Million Dollar Number Plate
The world record for the most expensive private number plate has been well and truly broken. A police auction held in the United Arab Emirates in aid of charities for people with special needs has seen the single digit number plate “5” reach 25.2 million Dirhams (£3,450,000). The previous highest selling private number plate was “M1” which sold at auction in the UK for £331,000. Also at the auction in the UAE was the number plate “12” which was sold for £1,220,000.

New Private Number Plates
The new 07 private number plates will be available for sale from December 5th. As with previous releases of private number plates there will be an open sale period (5th to 30th December) where a larger list of 07 Private Number Plates will be available. After the 30th of December the majority of these private number plates will be withdrawn from sale leaving a smaller 07 list of private number plates for sale. These private number plates can be assigned to new vehicles from February 1st. If you require more information on the release of new private number plates watch this space.

Number Plate Auction 102
The results are out for the 102nd DVLA Auction of cherished Number Plates held from the 24th - 26th October. The DVLA offered 1449 private number plates for sale of which 1256 sold. The average selling price for the private number plates was £2915. Among the EXO 771C (£1400) cherished number plates sold, the higher selling prices achieved were 1 SVV (£16100), 29 H (£14000), and LYR 1C (£11800). There were many EAG 11E (£2900) eyed speculators CHA 55E (£3800) ing bargains at the auction looking to clean-up (DY55 SON - £2000). Private Number Plate Formula
A fascinating study by Matthew Corder and Professor Andrew Oswald of Warwick University attempts to shed light on the price differences of private number plates. The Private Number Plates Sales Study examines data from 3000 registrations sold at DVLA auctions in 2002.
The most valuable attribute for Private Number Plates is spelling out a surname, which raises the value by an average of £1300. Spelling out a first name raises the value of personalised number plates by £1100. Spelling out a word other than a name does not make a significant benefit raising private number plates prices by an average of £200.
A single digit ‘1’ on private number plates adds approximately £1000 to a registrations value as does beginning with the letter ‘S’, whereas number plates beginning with an ‘F’ achieve typically £500 below the base price. Selling position also has a great significance on price with private number plates sold at the end of a 1000 item auction fetching £350 less than an equivalent plate sold at the beginning.
